Update on Guppy Program Summer 2021
Covid health and safety protocols will dictate some changes to our Guppy program for this upcoming summer. We do plan to have our coaches in the water with the swimmers and utilize kickboards and pool noodles to help maintain social distance.
Our Guppies are our youngest swimmers and the stars of the future! For 2021, Guppies must be at least 4 years old as of January 1, 2021 to participate in our program.
2021 Guppy assessments will take place at 6:00 pm on Tuesday and Wednesday, June 7 and 8 (guppies only need to attend one of the two nights). Guppies should come prepared in swimsuits and goggles and be ready to splash in the water with our coaches as they are assessed for basic skill level. Guppies are placed in two groups: Blue for our newest swimmers and Gold for our more experienced swimmers (some may advance or join the 8U practice group over the course of the season). The team rep will let you know which group your Guppy is assigned to. Please see our equipment page for suggestions regarding suits, goggles, caps and other equipment.
Blue Guppies will practice Tuesdays and Thursdays and Gold Guppies will practice Monday, Wednesday and Friday (per afternoon and morning practice schedules). The first Blue Guppy practice will be Thursday, June 10, and the first Gold Guppy practice will be Friday, June 11.
Guppies may the opportunity to participate in Monday night "B Meets" with a "lollipop" swim prior to the meet. Guppies get the chance to start on the side (typically dive well), dive or jump in, and swim to the other side. Coaching interns are in the water to encourage and assist as needed. Some Gold Guppies will also have the chance to participate in B Meets by swimming the 25 Meter Freestyle or 25 Meter Backstroke events (at the Head Coach's discretion). Learn more about swim meets here at Swim Meet 101 and more at Swim Meet Expectations.
GUPPIES ARE A PART OF THE TEAM
Guppies are considered part of the Swim and Dive Team! Guppies will receive a team tshirt, take part in Team Picture Day and will be celebrated at our season-end banquet. Guppy families are encouraged to participate in team activities like the Friday night Pasta Dinners and Pep Rallies.
Please e-mail the swim team reps, Kim Cordell and Bethany Duffy, at firstname.lastname@example.org with your Guppy questions. Come meet the team reps and coaches at the Springboard Open House on Sat May 22 from 1-5pm or join us for our Preseason Meeting on May 22 at 5:30pm. And we'll answer all your remaining questions at the New Family and Guppy Orientation on Thurs June 10 at 6:30 pm. See the calendar for more events!
Guppy families will be expected to volunteer along with other team families. Volunteering is a great way to learn the sport and meet other Springboard families. Learn more here.
